On Wildlife for Sale

07.26.2010

This is one of the documentary film hosted by Richard Gutierrez which was aired yesterday (July 25, 2010) in GMA Network.

The documentary focuses on wilds which was illegally traded among different countries (mostly Asean countries). It covers the wild life, marine reserved of Palawan (Philippines), threatened species, trading between neighboring countries from Myanmar's undaunted trading to China's exotic-food-loving restaurants.

From this documentary it was reported that Philippines have more than a thousand of wilds in the red list and some of this are of extinction . Which basically reminds me that dodo existed but long gone.

What draws me to watch this show? It's the essence being aware. I watch NatGeo a lot but then again in this documentary it covers what exactly is happening in reality, the true numbers behind this tradings. Mind you, this trading was on the third or fourth list next to guns and illegal drugs, its a multi-billion market, which was estimated to earn 4 Billion (Pesos?) a month. Given this amount it was rather scary to settle in.

I hope that this kind of documentation attracts more audience to create more impact on awareness.
